Cross Country Teams Sweep District Championships

DENTONxc_district_boys – For the sixth consecutive year, all four Dragon Cross Country teams placed 1st in the District Meet, giving the Varsity teams a spot in the Regional meet in Lubbock.

The Carroll Varsity and JV teams dominated the field, with all four teams obtaining very low scores in this tremendously competitive new district. The top 3 schools in the varsity boys and girls divisions advance to the Regional meet in Lubbock on Oct. 29.

Carroll Head Coach Justin Leonard said, “We are extremely happy with our runners’ performances at the District 6A – 5 meet yesterday. Our kids came ready to compete and put forth a solid effort. To be able to sweep this strong district speaks volumes about the depth and determination of this group. We will regroup with our varsity teams and get ready for the remainder of our season heading into regionals. Our goal is still yet to be accomplished.”

The Varsity Lady Dragons all finished within the top 12 spots and scored a very low score of 31. Senior Gillian Mortimer finished in first place with a time of 18:02.

Next crossing the line was Ali White (18:32) in 4th place, Catherine Tracht was next in 7th place (18:45), Sofia Santamaria took 9th (18:49) and Ari Lopez finished the scoring positions, coming in 10th at 19:13. Angie Riera and Sarah McCabe also competed for the Lady Dragon team, finishing 11th and 12th respectively.

The Varsity Dragon Boys also dominated their race with 4 of the runners placing in the top 10 and the team scoring only 35 points. Senior Reed Brown led the boys’ team and took 1st place with a time of 15:05. Charlie Gardner took 4th place running a 15:44, Nicolas Fernandes came in 5th with 15:58, Connor Rutledge came in 8th with a time of 16:13 and Evan Dunkel finished out the scoring positions in 17thth place running 16:33. Enzo Mortimer and Drew Bliss also competed, taking the 19th and 28th places respectively.
