Dragons Explode In Second Half for Road Victory at Marcus

dragon_dFLOWER MOUND – The Carroll Dragons came alive in the second half at Marcus last Friday.

The Dragons overcame a sluggish first half with a second half surge and stayed undefeated in District 5-6A with a 33-21 victory at Marauder Stadium. Carroll improved to 6-1 and 4-0 in district with three games remaining.

Carroll trailed 7-3 at the half, but exploded with a big second half behind quarterback Mason Holmes and running backs Audricke Gaines and Tre Sledge. Holmes threw two touchdowns in the second half to Jackson Davis for 20 and 15 yards. The final scoring catch came with 3:13 left to help seal the victory.

Gaines had another big rushing night and finished with 130 yards on 21 carries and one TD. Sledge added 78 yards and one TD. Receiver Clayton Keyes was the game’s top receiver with 139 yards on three catches.

The Dragon defense held Marcus to just eight first downs. Marcus was also held to 52 yards passing.

Carroll returns home Friday to host Byron Nelson on homecoming night. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
