Dragons Open Class 6A Playoffs With Victory Against Wylie

The Carroll Dragons opened the Class 6A Division II playoffs with a home victory against Wylie.

The 28-3 victory marked Carroll’s 10th consecutive victory in the bi-district playoff at Dragon Stadium. Carroll improved to 10-1 and faces a showdown Friday with DeSoto in the Region I semifinals.

DeSoto is ranked No. 2 in the Associated Press poll and Carroll is No. 8.

Against Wylie, the Dragon offense took some time to get going while their defense never budged. Carroll got on the board in the second quarter behind two touchdown passes by Mason Holmes to Clayton Keyes and Jackson Davis. After a scoreless first quarter, the Dragons held a 21-3 lead.

The Dragons defense had two interceptions and held Wylie without a touchdown and included a goal-line stand.

Carroll senior running back Audricke Gaines added another 100-yard game with 152 yards on 26 carries and one touchdown. Receiver Clayton Keyes had six catches for 130 yards. Holmes was 9-for-20 with 195 yards.
