DFW Announces Runway Closures to Install Runway Lights: March 24 – 26

DFW Airport officials are planning to conduct a full runway closure to accommodate FAA’s installation of Runway Status Lights.

The closure will be on Runway 18L/36R from 11pm on Friday, March 24 through 4pm on Sunday, March 26.  The previous weekend’s closure was postponed due to unfavorable weather conditions; this weekend’s closure will make up for this postponement and allow for this project to stay on schedule.

What to Expect:

Per the National Weather Service the winds during the closure through Saturday, March 25 are forecasted from the north at 5-16 mph with gusts as high as 25 mph.  This means that aircraft will initially depart to the north and land from north to south.  The rest of the weekend wind is forecasted from the south at 5-15 mph with gusts as high as 30 mph.  When winds are from the south, aircraft will depart to the south and land from north to south.  The graphics below depict the closures and their effects of the runway utilization:DFW Runway Closure Map March 24, 2017

  • Runway 18L/36R is the primary departure runway on the west side.  During its closure:
  • If the winds are out of the north, Runways 31R, 35R and 36L will be the used for arrivals and Runway 31L will be the primary departure runway on the west side.
  • If the winds are out of the south, departures will shift to Runway 18R and arrivals will shift to Runways 13R and 17L.
  • The shift in operations during north flow may affect Southlake, Grapevine, Coppell, Irving, Flower Mound, Lewisville and Euless.
  • The use of the outboard runways (diagonal runways and Runway 17L/35R) may be extended at night to 11pm.
