DFW to Close Runway 18L/36R: April 1-3

DFW Airport will be fully closing Runway 18L/36R from Saturday, April 1-Monday April 3 at 1:00 PM.

DFW had announced a series of planned full and partial runway closures for the FAA’s (Federal Aviation Administration) installation of Runway Status Lights. This weekend, weather permitting, DFW plans to again close its primary departure runway 18L/36R for the FAA’s installation work from Saturday, April 1-Monday, April 3 at 1:00 PM.

Also, the DFW Airport would like everyone to know that the partial closure of Runway 18L/36R (the north 2,000 feet will be closed) is ongoing, from March 15 through April 5.  The runway is usable for limited daylight hour operations. After sunset and before sunrise, the runway must be closed due to limited visibility of the construction area.  During north winds, Runway 31L will be needed for departure after sunset and before sunrise and may be used until 11pm (or later due to weather).

What to Expect:

This shifts in operations may affect the cities of Southlake, Grapevine, Coppell, Irving, Flower Mound, Lewisville, Euless and Arlington, which could experience some additional aircraft traffic, including jet departures on Runway 31L, increased arrivals to Runway 17L and 13R and/or night operations on the outboard runways.

Weekend Closure:  The wind forecast for Saturday is for south/southeast winds 10-15 mph gusting as high as 25 mph.  The winds are forecasted to shift to north Sunday morning, April 2nd.  Sunday’s winds will be north/northeasterly at 5-10 mph.  Monday’s winds will be north/northwesterly at 10-15 gusting as high as 25 mph.

Partial Closure of Runway 18L/36R Extended to April 5:

The partial closure of Runway 18L/36R has been extended from March 28 to April 5.

During the partial north closure of Runway 18L/36R, the runway will be available for day time only limited takeoffs and landings, as determined by the wind flow.
The runway will be closed after sunset as well as during any poor weather or low clouds (due to limited visibility of construction zone).
If the winds are out of the north, jet aircraft may need to depart Runway 31L.
The use of the outboard runways (diagonal runways and Runway 17L/35R) may be extended at night to 11pm.

The DFW Airport encourages citizens with inquiries or complaints to contact them.  You may contact the DFW Airport by email at dfwnoise@dfwairport.com, or on the Noise Complaint Hotline, at 972-973-3192 (manned 24/7).  Follow-up response calls or emails will be provided, when requested.
