DIS Students Incorporate Compassionate Service Into Social Studies Lesson

Durham Intermediate students in Mrs. Christensen’s and Ms. Key’s Language Arts class tied in social studies lessons from Africa and the assimilation of the Lost Boys refugees. Students watched a TED talk video on Salva Hut, and as a result, the students wanted to take on a philanthropy project and make an impact on the world.

The classes collected money to donate to Water is Basic and the Sawyer Filter Campaign. Students raised $708.07, and were able to purchase 47 water filters, impacting 236 families overall.
