Dragon Baseball Clinches District 5-6A Championship

HURST – Dragon baseball continued its hot streak in District 5-6A on Tuesday.

The Dragons clinched at least a share of the 5-6A title with a 4-2 victory against L.D. Bell. The Dragons have a three-game lead on second-place Marcus with three games remaining.

Carroll, ranked No. 1 in Class 6A by the Dallas Morning News, jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the second inning. That provided all the cushion needed for Dragon pitchers Adam Stephenson, Erik Friedel and Nicco Cole.

Stephenson went four innings and allowed six hits. He added eight strikeouts and one walk. The Dragons blasted nine hits led by two hits apiece from Stephenson, Wyatt Stapp and Cole Johnson. Johnson had a double and two RBI.

Carroll (21-7-1, 10-1 in 5-6A) has won eight straight in district and looks for a sweep against L.D. Bell on Friday. The Dragons host the Blue Raiders at 7 p.m. on Old Union Elementary Night.
