Southlake Named one of Top 50 Safest Cities

Some new bragging rights for the City of Southlake as it was recently named one of the top 50 safest Cities in Texas by Safewise!

The criteria for choosing the safest cities comes from the most recent Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Crime Report statistics from 2015, along with population data. That data is narrowed down to most reported violent crimes including aggravated assault, murder, rape and robbery and property crimes such as burglary, arson, larceny-theft and motor vehicle theft in each City.

According to the Safewise study, conducted by the Brennan Center for Justice at New York University of Law, the crime rate in five of Texas’s most populated Cities dropped an average of 7.48% between 2014 and 2015.

The report states this is great news for Texas and makes the Lonestar state one to watch for innovative public safety initiatives. This is even more significant because the Cities named on the list show numbers well below the national crime rates. Seventy-eight percent of these fifty Cities reported zero murders to the FBI in 2015. And of all top fifty cities only fifteen total homicides were reported.

You can do your part to help keep crime rates down by continuing to follow some simple guidelines found on our City of Southlake website under Public Safety. There’s lots of information and tips including: the Vacation House Watch program, Hide, Lock Take program, Home Security Inspections and much more you can fine on the Public Safety  portion of the website.
