July is Park and Recreation Month!

Southlake Parks and Recreation is inviting everyone to “Get Your Play On” and participate in Park and Recreation Month.  A national campaign sponsored by the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA), Park and Recreation Month is aimed at encouraging everyone to visit city parks, embrace active lifestyles and improve their overall health.

Summer offers the perfect opportunity to create healthy habits for yourself and your children by getting out to a park, trail, playground, swimming pool, natural area or other public space. The City of Southlake offers numerous recreational opportunities to explore including 1200+ acres of park land, the Bob Jones Nature Center & Preserve and the Southlake Tennis Center. These park and recreation opportunities enrich the lives of Southlake residents and provide natural spaces to play and exercise.

To help celebrate Park and Recreation Month, Southlake Parks and Recreation has put together a special calendar of events that you can print or view online. Every day in July, there is a highlighted activity for Southlake residents and visitors to do with their friends and family. Some of these free events include:

  • Park and Rec Month Movies at the Marq, July 8:  The Jungle Book (2016)
  • National Ice Cream Day, July 16: Get free Rita’s Italian Ice from 5:00 PM-7:00 PM at the Bicentennial Park Playground.
  • National Hot Dog Day, July 19: Join us for free hot dogs at the Bicentennial Park Playground.
  • Walk with the Mayor, July 22: A LiveFit event at North Park.
  • Yoga and Zumba, July 29:  A LiveFit event at Rustin Pavilion in Town Square.
  • National Mutt Day, July 31: Help us cap off  Park and Rec Month with your pup. Stop by Boo Boo’s Dog Park at Bob Jones Park for all kinds of fun dog activities.

Check out our calendar for more events and information, and show us how you “Get Your Play On” by celebrating with us at these events and posting to social media with the hashtag #PlayOnJuly.

However you decide to celebrate, Southlake Community Services encourages everyone to start talking about the positive role parks and recreation has on their lives!
