We recently received a couple of questions about the status of the road construction project on FM 1938 and wanted to provide an update. First, thank you for your patience with us as we continue to work with TxDOT on this project. We understand the inconvenience and look forward to the completion of the project.
While it may seem that the project has been completed, there are still a few significant tasks that remain.
Landscaping along the corridor
The landscape installation is almost done from Florence Road south. City staff is working with the contractor hired by TxDOT to ensure landscape work is completed and in line with the contract requirements.
Myers Meadow subdivision screening wall
Another part of the project that still remains is the construction of a stonework screening wall on the east side of FM 1938 along the Myers Meadow subdivision. The project team has encountered a number of construction issues with the proposed screening wall. The design engineer has been working with the TxDOT’s contractor to resolve the issues. Once crews are ready to begin construction, there will be periodic lane closures.
Underground drainage structure north of Beam Drive
Construction of a large underground drainage structure north of Beam Drive was included in the overall project to provide flood protection for the properties downstream of FM 1938. Unexpected site conditions and historic rain fall caused complications during the original paving operations. After extensive investigation, TxDOT decided to go with a completely different type of construction. This change has caused unexpected design and funding delays. At this point, there is not a schedule for the reconstruction of this drainage system; however it remains a top priority for TxDOT.
While all of this work is being completed, the entire corridor is considered a construction zone and the construction speed limit will remain posted until the project is completed. The speed limit will be adjusted when the project is complete.
Thank you again for your patience during this project. If you have any questions, please contact the Public Works Department at 817-748-8098.
