The Dragons opened up their 2017 playoffs with an impressive showing against the McKinney Lions. The Dragons shutout the Lions by a final score of 42-0.
Junior running back T.J. McDaniel carried the ball 13 times for 274 yards and four touchdowns in the first half. McDaniel scored again on the first drive of the second half and ended the game with an impressive 16 carries for 316 yards and 5 scores.
Will Bowers, junior quarterback, threw for 151 yards and one touchdown on 14 completions on 16 attempts. His only passing touchdown was to sophomore wideout R.J. Mickens.
Coming into the game, there was quite a bit being said about the running back from McKinney, Matthew Gadek, who had recently run for close to 600 yards in a single game. The Dragon defense stepped up and held Gadek to 73 yards on 23 carries. The defense was led by senior linebacker Matty Werner who had 14 total tackles in the game. Sophomore Jake Fex and senior Hayden Hayes both had interceptions in the game as well.
The Dragons are on to a rematch with the team that ended their 2016 season and went on to win the state championship, the Desoto Eagles next Saturday, November 25 at The Ford Center at the Star in Frisco.
