Hoops Update: Girls Team Splits District Matchups; Boys Open District with Win

Both the Lady Dragons and the Dragon Basketball teams took to the court twice last week.

Lady Dragon Basketball Fall Just Short in Matchup with Marcus

The Lady Dragons traveled to Marcus High School on December 12 to take on the Marauders in a district matchup. The game was tied 28-28 heading into the fourth quarter. The Dragons fell by a final of 38-35 and were lead in scoring by senior Abby Zeitsiff, who had 11 points on the game. Freshman Jordyn Sowell and senior Anna Gillatt both pitched in 7 points in the loss.

Late Rally Helps Lady Dragons Take Crucial District Win

The Lady Dragons returned to the court on Friday in another district match against the Lewisville Farmers. The Lady Dragons lead by three points at the half but saw that lead diminish in the third quarters. Going into the fourth quarter down by there the Dragons rallied to outscore the Farmers in the final frame 16-11 and take the district win by the final score of 50-47.

Up Next For The Lady Dragons

The Lady Dragons are now 9-9 on the season and 2-1 in district. Their schedule for this week includes a matchup at home against Byron Nelson before the winter break starts. They will return to the court during the holiday break to take part in the Keller Central Holiday Tournament.

Dragon Basketball Continues Hot Streak

Coming off the tournament win in the Keller, the Dragons welcomed the Mansfield Tigers in for their final preparation game for their upcoming district schedule. The Dragons came out firing on all cylinders and took an early lead and held onto it throughout the game. The Dragons walked away with the 86-67 victory.

Dragons Open District with Road Victory

The Dragons Basketball team joined the Lady Dragons on the road at Lewisville on December 15 to open their district portion of their 17-18 schedule. The Dragons went into the second quarter down by two but quickly flipped the scoreboard and led 43-37 at the half. They held on to the lead throughout the second half and went on to win their first district matchup 87-64.

These two wins help continue the Dragons hot start and push their record to 16-2 overall and 1-0 in district play. Tuesday, December 19, the Dragons will take on an 11-4 Byron Nelson team in a home doubleheader at CSHS. The girls will tip at 6:00 and the boy’s team will play right after their game. The Dragons will be on winter break until their next matchup at home against Frisco Centennial on December 27 at 11:30.
