School Board Members Recognized at January Meeting

January is School Board Appreciation Month and Carroll ISD took some time out of their regular Board meeting to honor the volunteer members of the Board of Trustees. The evening included songs, presentations and an impressive performance for the Dragon Band.

The recognition began with a two-song performance from the Carroll Elementary Choir. The students sang songs of thanks and appreciation to the Board of Trustees.

Next, the student ambassadors from Durham Intermediate made a special presentation to the Board. The students spoke about the Board’s responsibility to the not only the students and staff of CISD but also the community of Southlake. Students presented each Board member a board game that will be placed in the Durham Library for student use in their name.

Southlake Mayor Laura Hill and Southlake City Council member Chris Archer were next to recognize the Board. They spent time speaking on the wonderful partnership between the city and the school district. They presented the Board with a gift bag full of items from all around Southlake. Archer, who is a former CISD Board member, then presented each Trustee with a unique Carroll ISD shirt.

Finally, the Dragon Band entered the room in style, showing off their newly purchased Yamaha brass instruments which were purchased through funds from the 2017 Carroll Bond. This was the debut performance of the band’s new instruments. Band Director Ken Johnson thanked the Board for their continual support.

At the beginning of the meeting, the video below was played for the Board members. Students in grades pre-kindergarten through first grade were asked what they thought the job of a School Board member consisted of.
