Carroll Water Polo Players Selected For Olympic Development Program

Carroll High School Water Polo athletes Ryan Perham, Ashley Chand, Sydney Jones, and Matt Hahn (alternate) have been selected to the USA Water Polo Olympic Development Team.

The Olympic Development Program (ODP) serves as a forum to identify and train athletes from all over the country to represent USA Water Polo through domestic and international competition. ODP involves 13 different geographic zones throughout the country and the top 14 athletes chosen from each zone move on to compete and learn at the ODP zone Championship in February.

The high school Water Polo season begins in February also, and all four athletes will be competing for Southlake Carroll again this year. Although water polo is not yet a UIL sport, it is expected to be ratified in the coming years. For the last four year, the Southlake Carroll teams have advanced to The Texas State Championship Tournament with the girls winning 1st place in 2015 and the boys advancing to 2nd place overall in 2016.

Carroll also has 4 former athletes currently playing water polo in colleges around the country, all of whom participated in the ODP process. Head Coach Keeley Lowery is enthusiastic about the sport at Southlake Carroll and has seen the development of the sport in this area first hand. She sees that “more and more kids are playing year round and are participating in club water polo and programs like the ODP camps. It can only help improve the
level of play at the high school level. I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished and can’t wait for the season to start”.

Coach Keeley Lowery is joined this year by coach Keith Gomez and the water polo season
starts on February 19th.
