City Council Briefs for the Week of January 15, 2018

On January 16, 2018, the Southlake City Council called a General Election for May 5, 2018, to elect the Mayor and Council Place 2.

Mayor Laura Hill is up for re-election along with Council Place 2 currently held by Shawn McCaskill. Both Mayor Hill and Councilmember McCaskill hope to serve the community for another term.

The candidate filing period runs January 17 through February 16. Candidate packets are available in the City Secretary’s Office in Town Hall on the second floor. Early voting begins April 23 and ends on May 1, 2018.

City Council also took action on the proposed ordinance concerning Short-Term Rentals on January 16. A second reading and public hearing are scheduled for the February 6, 2018, Council meeting. Council is considering whether to prohibit the operation of Short-Term Rentals (STRs) within Southlake.

Also, Mayor Laura Hill proclaimed February as LiveFit Southlake month. LiveFit promotes good health and an active lifestyle. Southlake offers lots of free health and fitness programs for the whole family. Find out more here.
