Senior Activity Center Member Martha Wood Turns 103 Years Young

On February 13, 2018, the Senior Activity Center celebrated a milestone birthday for beloved member Martha Wood.

Senior Center member Martha Wood celebrates her 103rd birthdayMartha Wood, née Watson, was born on February 13, 1915, in Humboldt, Tennessee. She was raised in Columbus, Mississippi, with her sister Clarissa and attended high school in Columbus. Martha also attended college for two years and took business courses that led her to her main occupation as a stenographer.

In 1938, Martha married Joseph L. Wood. They lived in Greenville, Mississippi, with their adopted daughter Julie Ann. Joseph passed away in 1978, and Julie Ann lived until 2003. Martha has a grandson, John, who lives in Farmington, Arkansas.

Since moving to Southlake in July 1993, Martha has become a regular member of the Southlake Senior Activity Center’s Party Bridge group. Her hobbies include playing the piano, reading and cooking. She likes Italian food and loves sweets, especially chocolate. She considers herself a “chocoholic.”

Martha has a positive attitude and strives to lead a simple Christian life guided by unselfish love and concern for others.
