Dragon Wrestlers Earns State Gold; Dragons Excel on the Mat

The wrestling season came to a successful end for the Dragons this past weekend at the UIL State Wrestling Meet. Four Dragon Wrestlers qualified for the meet after impressive showings at the Regional Meet last weekend. Zach Barz, Jacob Doddridge, Cameron Haddock and Jake Johnson represented the Dragons.

In the 152-pound division, Carroll wrestler Cameron Haddock put on a show all weekend on the mat. In Haddock’s first match, he scored a first-round pin against a wrestler from Lewisville Hebron in just 45 seconds. Haddock went on to defeat Gunnar Pierson (Conroe HS) and Austin Cooley (Plano HS) to punch his ticket to the state final. In the final, Haddock took on a tough wrestler from Martin High School, Eric Two Lance. Haddock came out on top in this matchup and was named 6-A State Champion for the 152 Pound Division.

Jacob Doddridge advanced through the bracket as well in the 220-pound division and set up a match against Rockwall’s Sean Delmonte. The two battled in their match, and Delmonte earned the victory. Doddridge finishes his career with Dragon Wrestling with a Silver Medal in the 220-pound division.

Jake Johnson finished with the bronze medal in the 195-Division.

Overall, Allen High School took the team wrestling meet championship and the Dragons finished fourth overall.
