The CISD Board Room was packed on Monday evening as word spread that the Carroll ISD would be naming the next head football coach for the Carroll Dragons. Accompanied by his wife, two children and many of his former teammates, Riley Dodge was announced as the new head football coach.
“I am honored and humbled to be the new Carroll Head Football Coach,” Dodge said in his statement to the board. “I do not take this opportunity and responsibility lightly and am extremely excited to be back home.”
As a former Dragon, Coach Dodge was a three-time state champion, two-time UIL 5A Texas State Player of the Year, and former Parade American.
Since graduating Carroll ISD and obtaining his degree at McNeese State, Dodge has been dedicated to coaching for the past six years. His experience includes game planning and scouting for Texas A&M University, as well as Defensive Secondary and Recruiting Assistant for the University of Texas at Austin. Most recently, Coach Dodge spent time as the offensive coordinator for Marcus High School and Northwest High School. In his most recent stop, Dodge led the Northwest High School offense to the distinction of being the top offense in the district, and top five in the DFW area.
“I applied for and accepted this position to make a difference in the lives of your children. Yes, I came here to win football games, but most importantly, I am here to challenge, lead and love the young men you have entrusted to me,” Dodge stated from the podium while many Dragon Football players stood behind him.
The Carroll Dragons and Coach Riley Dodge will kick off the 2018 season on the road at South Grand Prairie on August 30, and make their Dragon Stadium debut the following week against Colleyville Heritage.
