Spring Cleaning Event is Coming Up!

NOTE 4/20/2018: This event has been canceled due to potential rainy weather. Read more here.

Can you believe it’s already almost time for the biannual Spring Cleaning event? This Spring Cleaning event is a great way to rid your home of toxic paints, chemicals and other hazardous materials that can’t go in the trash.

Thanks to a partnership with the Fort Worth Environmental Center, residents can bring hazardous waste items to dispose of to the mobile collection center on Saturday, April 21 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. or until full at Dragon Stadium, 1085 South Kimball Avenue. Please bring your driver’s license or Southlake water bill to verify you’re a resident.

Items accepted will be:

  • Automotive fluids
  • Batteries
  • Cleaners & chemicals
  • Cooking oil
  • Lawn/garden/pool chemicals
  • Light bulbs
  • Paint & painting supplies. (If you have water-based or latex paint you can completely dry out the paint and place it in your regular household trash.)

Texas Recovery Systems will also be onsite to take your old electronics. You can dispose of e-waste items including:

  • CD/DVD drives
  • Cell phones
  • Computers (hard drives, monitors, laptops, cables etc.)
  • Printers, ink cartridges, and keyboards

In addition, there will also be on-site paper shredding to prevent your sensitive documents against identity theft.

There are a few items that we can’t accept.  Please don’t bring the following:

  • Ammunition and explosives
  • Appliances
  • Building materials
  • Bulk trash and yard waste
  • Butane/propane cylinders
  • Medicines and medical waste
  • Tires
  • Asbestos/PCBs/radioactive items
  • New this year: CRT TV’s or monitors (tube type)
Note: Flat panel TV and LCD PC flat panels are okay.

What better way to wrap up Volunteer Appreciation Week than with a volunteer gathering at the Spring Cleaning Event. Coincidentally, April 21 wraps up Volunteer Appreciation Week and this event would not be possible without the large group of volunteers that serve at this event.

Can’t make it to the event? Visit the Fort Worth Environmental Collection Center. For any questions, please contact Renni Burt at 817-748-8349.
