Carroll Jazz Orchestra Wins Multiple Awards at Essentially Ellington Competition

The Carroll Jazz Orchestra returned from their five-day trip to New York City for the Essentially Ellington Competition, where they received numerous awards for their performance. The students had the opportunity to see famous jazz artists perform at the legendary Village Vanguard jazz club, were able to meet and work with the members of the world-famous Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra and had the opportunity to perform in front of a massive worldwide audience.

The Carroll Jazz Orchestra performed in competition with 14 other bands from around the United States and they represented Carroll ISD’s values and commitment to excellence to the fullest. The Carroll Jazz Orchestra won the following awards during the Essentially Ellington competition:

Outstanding Trumpet Section (Walter Gaman, Justin Little, Elisabeth Adkins, Chase Adams)
Outstanding Guitar Soloist – Liam McCabe
Outstanding Piano Soloist – Kade Lehman
Outstanding Alto Saxophone Soloist – Samuel Ma
Outstanding Tenor Saxophone Soloist – Kyle Cantrell
Outstanding Tenor Saxophone Soloist – Brendan James

“It would be hard to conceive of an experience that could be more educational, memorable and rewarding than this one was,” said David Lown, Carroll ISD Director of Jazz Bands. “We inspired other young musicians and they inspired us. It is an experience that we will never forget!”

The performance was live streamed and will also be available for viewing on the Jazz at Lincoln Center YouTube channel in the coming days.
