Carroll Wind Ensemble and Wind Symphony Receive Superior Ratings at Peak Musical Festival

The Carroll Wind Ensemble, directed by Gary Barnard, and the Carroll Wind Symphony, directed by Ken Johnson, performed at the Peak Music Festival in the Murchison Performing Arts Center at UNT on Saturday, May 5. Both groups earned all Superior ratings and additional Outstanding awards for individual performances.

The Wind Ensemble received all  “Superior” ratings from the three adjudicators. Additionally, awards were given for the following:

  • Outstanding Low Brass section
  • Outstanding Percussion section
  • Outstanding piano soloist – Gus Milhizer
  • Outstanding Bass Clarinet soloist – Lindley Ferguson
  • Outstanding Euphonium soloist – Drew Carlton

The Carroll Wind Symphony also earned all “Superior” ratings, received the “Best in Class” trophy – 6A Bands, and was named “Most Outstanding” ensemble of the day.

Additional recognition went to the following:

  • Outstanding Saxophone section
  • Outstanding French Horn section
  • Outstanding Low Brass section
  • Outstanding Percussion section
  • Outstanding clarinet soloist – Gretchen Casel
  • Outstanding oboe soloist – Andrew Kim
  • Outstanding bassoon soloist – Kyle Fondon
