Bryant Wins CISD Board Seat

Unofficial results from Tarrant County show Matt Bryant has won Place 4 on Carroll School Board with 49.56% of the votes. Incumbents Danny Gilpin and Dave Almand ran unopposed, and also won their seats for Place 5 and 7, respectively.

Bryant had a total of 674 votes compared to opponents Eric W. Lannen with 521 votes and Dudley Jordan with 165 votes. A total of 860 voters cast an early ballot and/or mailed their ballots in; the rest cast their ballots on election day. Tarrant County’s election results reported 1,410 total votes in the 2018 CISD Trustee election, representing 6.29% of the 22,421 registered voters.  Trustees must canvas the election votes before they become official, but there are no runoffs in Carroll School Board elections.

Bryant wins the seat vacated by outgoing Trustee Read Ballew who announced earlier this year he would not seek reelection after serving nine years on the CISD Board.  All three of the 2018 election winners will be sworn in during a special School Board meeting May 14.

Bryant has resided in Carroll ISD since 2005. He graduated from the Carroll Leadership Academy for Supporting Success (CLASS) and served as a member of Carroll ISD’s Strategic Planning Committee. He studied Mechanical Engineering at Texas A&M University and works in real estate.

Gilpin won a three-year term by being re-elected to his Place 5 seat. He collected 1,070 votes with 100 percent of the precincts reporting.  Gilpin was elected to a three-year term on the Carroll ISD Board of Trustees in May 2015, and has resided in Southlake since 1999.  He previously served on the Carroll ISD Board of Trustees from 2006-2009 and was a member of the Carroll Education Foundation from 2000-2015. He is a graduate of Southern Methodist University, with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, and currently works as the Vice President of Isles Ranch Partners.

Almand collected 1,070 votes to win a one-year unexpired term in Place 7.  He was appointed to Place 7 by the Carroll ISD Board in October 2017. He has resided in Southlake since 2014.

Almand is a retired US Air Force Colonel. He holds a Bachelor of Science from the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO, a Master of Arts from Webster University, and a Master of Sciences from the Air Command and Staff College. He was a 2010 National Security Affairs Fellow at the Hoover Institution, Stanford University, Stanford, CA. He is a graduate of the 2015 CISD CLASS program and an Advisory Board Member of the Carroll Education Foundation. He has served CISD as a substitute teacher, volunteer and district committee member. He was recognized as the 2017 CMS Volunteer of the Year, and is a 2015 graduate of the Southlake Citizens Academy.
