Dragon Baseball Advances In Playoffs

The Carroll Dragon baseball team swept their opening playoff series this past weekend and earned the opportunity to advance on to the Area Playoffs against Irving MacArthur.

Game one of the three-game series with the Plano Wildcats was decided early as the Dragons jumped out to an 11-0 lead after three innings. The Dragons were led by Cole Johnson, Nik Millsap, and Will Quillen, who each had 3 RBIs on the game. Kyle Warden pushed his season record to 5-1 with his 5 inning complete game. Warden struck out 3 while on only 86 pitches.

Game two of the series sent unbeaten Nicco Cole to the mound for the Dragons and he did not disappoint. Coming up one out short of a complete game, Cole threw 6 2/3 innings and struck out 8 Wildcats. The most exciting play of the night came on a suicide squeeze play that ended up plating two runs for the Dragons due to errors by the Wildcats. The Dragons went on to take game two and the series 7-3.

The Carroll Dragons will take on Irving MacArthur in a one-game playoff on Friday night at 7:00 pm at Irving MacArthur High School.
