Dragon Baseball swept Keller Timber Creek this past weekend to set up a showdown with Flower Mound Marcus for the 6-A Region 1 Championship and birth in the UIL State Tournament in Round Rock.
Friday night, it took five runs in the final two frames for the Dragons to take game 1 of the series. The Dragon offense benefitted from well-placed base hits and untimely Timber Creek errors to take the first of three games. Bergen Krug improved his season record to 3-0 for his 2 2/3 innings of scoreless pitching. Adam Stephenson picked up the save with a scoreless final inning.
Saturday, the Dragons sent Nicco Cole (11-0) to the mound. After giving up an uncharacteristic first inning home run to Timber Creek’s Mateo Gil, Cole settled down and struck out seven Falcons over the next 6 2/3 innings. The Dragons took game two 3-1 and closed out their fourth consecutive sweep in these playoffs.
Their focus shifts to the Region 1 Final this coming week against district foe, Flower Mound Marcus. The three-game series will kick off on Thursday night at 8 pm at Globe Life Park in Arlington. Friday’s game will begin at 8:00 p.m. and Saturday’s game, if needed, will begin at 7:30. All three games will be played at the home of the Texas Rangers. Gates will open one hour prior to first pitch. Tickets will be $10 for children, $12 for adults, and parking will $5. Click here to view the parking map.
District Athletic Passes will be honored on site, but through an agreement with Globe Life Park and the Texas Rangers, they will only admit the cardholder and one guest for this series.
