Volleyball Opens Regular Season With Exciting Victory; Preps For Aledo

Last week, the Lady Dragon Volleyball team wrapped up the tournament portion of their schedule. The competition in these tournaments was top-notch and it gave the team a chance to measure themselves against competition that they would see throughout the regular season and potentially the playoffs.

The Lady Dragons opened tournament season with a tenth-place finish in the John Turner Classic in Pearland. McKenzie Nichols was named to the All-Tournament team after her outstanding performance.

Nichols and teammate Natalie Glenn were named to the All-Tournament Team in the Northwest ISD Tournament. The Lady Dragons took fourth overall in that bracket.

They concluded the tournament season with a third-place finish in the Lonestar Circle of Champions tournament. Nichols, Glenn, Annabelle Smith, and Kendal Gilpin were all honored with All-Tournament honors.

The tournament season set them up perfectly as they sprinted into regular season play against a hot McKinney Boyd team that had recently won the Lone Star Circle of Champions. This early season matchup was a back and forth battle that was decided in the fourth set. The Lady Dragons would go on to win in final set 25-15 and seal the regular season-opening victory.

The Lady Dragons were lead by many strong performances in this one. Smith had 18 kills and seven blocks. Glenn racked up a double-double with 19 kills and 11 digs. Nichols had 45 assists and 19 digs and Gilpin contributed 19 digs.

LDVB is 23-5 overall and heads into a matchup Friday night against at Aledo.
