Carroll ISD Teacher Named TAGT Teacher of the Year

The Texas Association for the Gifted and Talented has designated their award winners for this school year. Each year they designate an Administrator of the Year, an Advocate of the Year, an Educator of the Year and also a Parent Group of the Year. These honorees are recognized for their dedication to the advancement of gifted and talented education.

The TAGT Educator of the Year is Carroll ISD’s own Karen Otto. Otto is an English 2 GT teacher at Carroll High School.  Otto works hard to bring innovative, creative teaching to the classroom and takes her students out into the community. She has been in education for 21-years and began teaching 6th grade G/T English. Since then, she has spent time teaching middle and high school GT in schools of varying socioeconomic diversity. Otto holds an MA in English, an M.Ed., and is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in English.

Gina Peddy, Carroll ISD Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction could not be more proud of Ms. Otto.

“We are very proud of Mrs. Otto for being named the TAGT Educator of the Year. Ms. Otto is dedicated to meeting the needs of the GT learner and she goes above and beyond to seek innovative ways to engage the students in her classroom.”, Peddy said.

All recipients will be honored on November 29 at INSPIRE: TAGT Awards Celebration during giftED18, the TAGT Annual Conference in Fort Worth.
