Carroll Tennis Advance to Regional Semifinals

The Carroll Tennis team has been on a tear as they progress through the UIL postseason and set aim on qualifying for the state tennis match.

Tennis clinched the 5-6A District Championship and the first Lone Star Cup points of the year by going a perfect 7-0 in district play. The team won their 8th consecutive district title and gives the school four Lone Star Cup points. The team’s overall record heading into playoffs was 11-6.

In the Bi-District round of the playoffs, the Dragons took on Flower Mound at the Ennis Tennis Center due to the weather. They attempted to play the match outdoors until the skies opened up and the teams were forced to finish inside. The Dragons went on to shut out Flower Mound 10-0 and advance to the Area round.

A rainy end to the outdoor tennis season forces a compressed schedule, meaning that Dragon Tennis had to play its biggest two matches of the season, to date, in a 48 hour time window. In the Area round, the Dragons again played at the Ennis Tennis Center due to the weather. They shut out Duncanville 10-0 for their fifth shutout of the week.

In the first round of the regional tournament featured two of the top teams in the state. The Dragons took the court in Grapevine against their rivals from Coppell. In a match in front of Dragon fans including the Lady Dragon Volleyball team, the Dragons jumped out to an early lead and didn’t look back. The Dragon’s earned their 10-3 victory and their trip to the regional semifinals.

The Dragons will head to Abilene to play in the regional semifinals this Thursday.
