The weeks and months leading up to the end of first semester are a hectic time for many groups around the school and choir is no exception. During the month of November, choir students have participated in both the Texas All-State Choir audition process and the ACDA National Honor Choir audition process.
The Texas All-State Choir is selected through four rounds of highly competitive auditions. This year, Carroll had 28 students who gained a spot in one of the Region 31 Honor Choirs. On Saturday, November 10, these students had the opportunity to work with conductors from Baylor University and the University of North Texas. At the end of the clinic, the students performed in a full formal concert complete with an orchestra. Carroll also had two soloists during the concert, junior Emma Cave and senior Amber Meagher.
On Thursday, November 15, Carroll hosted the Pre-Area, the third round of All-State Choir auditions. Four Carroll students will be among the 40 from Region 31 advancing to the final round of auditions: junior Reilly Buckley and seniors Amber Meagher, James Wade and Bill Kahn. The final round of All-State auditions will be held on Saturday, Jan. 12 at the University of Texas at Arlington.
Finally, five Carroll singers will represent Carroll and the state of Texas in the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) National Honor Choir: juniors Emma Cave and Alyssa Zahalsky and seniors Amber Meagher, James Wade and Sebastian Poorman. The ACDA National Honor Choir will convene February 27 in Kansas City, MO, and end with a concert on March 2 for the 60th annual Conductors Convention.
