The Texas Council of Teachers of English Language Arts has designated their award winners for this school year. Each year they designate numerous awards including Teacher of the Year from Elementary, Middle, and High School. This year, the TCTELA High School Teacher of the year was Carroll’s own Karen Otto.
This is Otto’s second honor this year as she was previously named the TAGT Teacher of the Year as well.
Otto was recognized for this award because of her passion to give students choices when it comes to their reading and writing. She focuses on creating a community of learners in her classroom. She believes that the deep sense of community is the foundation of her learning. Her students believe at her transparency with expectations and her own personal struggles as a student help them grow better as students.
Otto was honored at the TCTELA Conference that was held January 25-26 in San Antonio.
