Dragon Soccer Falls in Round 1

The Dragon Soccer team, under first-year head coach Aaron Cottrell, fell to the Hebron Hawks in a tough matchup on Friday in round one of the UIL State Playoffs.

The Dragons fell behind in the first half and put pressure on the Hawks throughout the remainder of the game but could not find the back of the net. The Hawks went on to defeat the Dragons 2-0.

The Dragons wrap up an impressive season going undefeated through the regular season and winning their tough district outright. The team finished their season with an overall record of 20-1-3 and a district record of 11-0-3. The team spent the better part of the season ranked number one in the nation by USA Today and ranked at the top of the region rankings. While a first-round exit was not the goal set early in the season, the program is moving in the right direction under Coach Cottrell.

To put the Dragon’s undefeated regular season run in perspective, in the previous 24 seasons only one Dragon team has matched this accomplishment and that was the 2011 Dragons who went 21-0-3 in the regular season and went on to win the team’s last state championship.
