Dragon Band Earns UIL Sweepstakes Trophy

Last week, four Carroll Concert Bands traveled to Ranchview High School in Irving to perform in the Region 31 UIL Concert and Sight Reading Assessment. Each ensemble performed three prepared songs on stage for three judges and then moved to a sight reading room to perform a song never rehearsed before in front of three different judges. All four concert bands received straight First-Division “Superior” ratings on stage. Wind Symphony, Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Winds White also earned “Superior” ratings in Sight Reading, and Symphonic Winds Green earned an “Excellent” rating in Sight Reading.

This past fall, the Carroll Dragon Marching Band received a Superior rating at the Region 31 UIL Marching Assessment. The combination of Superior ratings for the Varsity programs at both the fall marching assessment and spring concert/sight reading assessment resulted in the Carroll Dragon Band receiving the highly-coveted “UIL Sweepstakes” trophy.

Congratulations to these ensembles for their awards:

  • Symphonic Winds White (Sub Non Varsity) – Gary Barnard, Director
  • Symphonic Winds Green (Sub Non Varsity) – Ken Johnson, Director

  • Wind Symphony (Varsity) – Ken Johnson, Director
