After enduring a weather delay of over four hours, the Lady Dragon soccer team took the field against J.J Pearce High School for the Region 1 title and an opportunity to play in the state tournament.
The Lady Dragons did not waste any time getting on the scoreboard against, what many considered, the hottest team in the metroplex. Three minutes into the game, senior Sydney Nobles netted the teams first of six first-half goals off a beautiful pass from senior Taylor Tufts.
The Lady Dragons would go on to win the game by the same score of 6-0. Nobles scored two goals on the day and Tufts, Madi Drenowatz, Sarah Hornyak and Karina Owens each added one goal as well. Tufts and Drenowatz led the team with two assists each on the game. Senior Keeper Madi Martin shut down the Pearce offensive attack for her fifteenth shutout on the season.
The Lady Dragons are one of four teams still competing for the 6A State Championship. They will head to Georgetown, Texas later this week to take on Lake Travis on Friday at 9:30 am @ Birkelbach Stadium. The winner of that game will play for the state championship against the winner of the match between Allen (20-4-2) vs. Katy Tompkins (26-0-0) on Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
