Dragon Tennis Clinch 5-6A District Championships

The Dragon Tennis team traveled to the Richland Tennis Center this week to take part in the District 5-6A meet. After an impressive two days of competing and an “All-Dragon” final match in both boys and girls doubles, the Dragons came home with two 5-6A District Championships.

Heading into finals play on Tuesday, the Dragons were well represented with multiple singles and doubles pairs still playing for individual honors and the opportunity to advance to the UIL Regional Meet. In boys doubles, Nick Ryniak and Gino French would take on Dragon teammates Inesh Raju and Ryan Schmuhl in the first of two “All-Dragon” finals on the schedule. Ryniak and French went on to take first place in boys double in the meet after defeating their teammates in the final.

Courtney Landgraf and Tiffany Landgraf would take on Brennan Becicka and Sam Lowe in an “All-Dragon” girls doubles final as well, with Becicka and Lowe winning the match and the district title.

Kelly Kunz and Drake Ferri took down a pair from Byron Nelson in the mixed doubles final, and Colin Scruggs defeated a representative from Keller High School to win the boys singles title for District 5-6A.

Each of these athletes has qualified to compete in the UIL Region 1 tournament on April 17-18 in Arlington.
