The Lady Dragon Softball team wrapped up their three-game series with Flower Mound and earned their spot in the area round of the playoffs in dramatic form late Friday evening.
After taking game one on Thursday, the Lady Dragons traveled to Flower Mound on Friday to finish off the series. Game two did not go in the Dragons favor with Flower Mound taking the game 12-3 and forcing a deciding game three that would immediately follow.
Flower Mound got on the scoreboard early in the first inning, but the Lady Dragons answered with four runs on five hits in the bottom of the first. The Dragons won a pre-game coin flip and played game 3 as the home team even though they were physically on the road. The Dragons were able to hold onto their early lead until the top of the sixth inning when Flower Mound was able to string together a few hits and retake the lead.
The series came down to the final half inning for the Lady Dragons. After retiring the first two Dragon hitters, Flower Mound intentionally walked Gaby Garcia, who had already hit three home runs in the series. Piper Harness stepped into the box and with two strikes drove a ball to right field into the trees behind the outfield fence and the Lady Dragons took back the lead at 7-6.
The Lady Dragons would close out the game and the Bi-District Championship and advance to take on the Mansfield Lady Tigers in the area round of the playoffs. Game One begins Tuesday at 7:30 at Carroll Senior High. Game Two will be held in Mansfield on Friday at 7:30. Game 3, if needed, will take place on Saturday at a neutral site still being determined.
