The Dragon Baseball team is headed to the area round of the playoffs after a sweep of Coppell this past weekend.
The series opened up in dramatic fashion. Game one would extend late into the night and into both team’s bullpens. With the game knotted up 6-6 in the 11th inning, a deep fly ball from Austin Hale landed just out of the reach of the Coppell outfielder allowing Homer Bush Jr to score the game winner. Sophomore reliever Ryan Pehrson would pick up the game one victory after throwing a spotless 11th inning for the Dragons.
While game two will go down in the books as another “come from behind victory” for the Dragons, the game told a different story. Trailing 1-0 in the 2nd inning the Dragons went to work. They scored four runs in the 2nd and would not trail again. They would continue to pour on the runs and capped the offensive explosion with Brandon Howell home run that would extend the lead to 10-2. The Dragons would go on to win this game and the series by a score of 10-5.
The Dragons will head to familiar territory for the next round of the playoffs. Last season, the Dragons got the opportunity to play for a bid to the state tournament at Globe Life Park in Arlington, home of the Texas Rangers. The area round of the UIL playoffs will be held at Globe life this weekend. Carroll Baseball will face J.J. Pearce beginning Friday, May 10 at 4:30 pm at Globe Life. Game 2 will be Saturday, May 11 at 11 am also at Globe Life Park. If needed, Game 3 will be held on May 11 at 4 pm at Grand Prairie High School.
