The Lady Dragon Softball team has advanced to the Regional Quarterfinals for the first time in 14 years with their weekend sweep of Mansfield High School.
Game one was held after a lengthy rain delay and saw the Lady Dragons fall behind 1-0 after the first pitch of the game. Just like they have shown all season, the Lady Dragons came back resilient and put up four runs of their own in the bottom of the first. Behind stellar pitching from Kelley Shackleford, the Dragons would cruise to the late-night victory and begin to prepare for game two.
In Game two, the Lady Dragon fell behind early after giving up two early runs to the Lady Tigers. The Lady Dragons evened the score up at 2-2 before the skies opened up and halted play for half an hour. When the game resumed the Lady Dragons pushed across the game’s final tally in the top of the 6th, to close game two and the series out with the 3-2 victory.
The Lady Dragons will face off against the familiar foe and District Champion 5-6A Keller this week for a chance to head into the fourth round of the playoffs. The Region 1 Quarterfinals begin Thursday, May 9 at 7:30 pm at Keller High School. The series will shift to CSHS for the remainder with a 7:30 first pitch on Friday, May 10 and a 1 pm start time for game 3 on Saturday, May 11, if needed.
