Apex Presents Baroque Opera

A staged Baroque Opera is coming is coming to Northeast Tarrant County. The American Baroque Opera Company along with Avant Chamber Ballet will present The Decent of Orpheus to the Underworld on Sunday, November 3 at 4 p.m. at White’s Chapel United Methodist Church.

The 2 act opera, written by French composer Charpentier around 1686, will be Sung in French with English translation provided on screen. The classic story centers around Orpheus; a musician, poet, and prophet in ancient Greek religion and his attempt to retrieve his wife Eurydice from the underworld. ABO performs fully staged baroque operas; costumed performances with chamber (small) orchestra using period instruments.

Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors/Apex members and $10 for children and are available online at apexartsleague.com or at the door.

About American Baroque Opera
In addition to presenting works of well-known composers including Handel, Vivaldi, and Purcell, the mission is to resurrect the operas of lesser known baroque composers, famous in their day, whose operas have fallen into obscurity. ABOC performs on period instruments with historical performance practice.

About Avant Chamber Ballet:
Avant Chamber Ballet’s mission is to bring exceptional live dance and chamber music together for audiences in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. Our ensemble of classically trained dancers presents a diverse repertoire of classical and contemporary works from local choreographers, as well as internationally acclaimed artists. The organization is in its seventh season and is led by artistic director Katie Cooper and music director David Cooper.
