Dragon Band Wraps Busy Week in Historic Fashion

A very busy week for the Dragon Band opened in a local contest here in DFW and ended in historic fashion in St. Louis, Missouri.

Last Tuesday, the Carroll Dragon Band competed at the Region level, performing our contest show “Nomadic” at the U.I.L. Region 31 Marching Contest. Students received all “Superior” ratings from the three adjudicators and took the first step towards earning the coveted “U.I.L. Sweepstakes Trophy”, awarded annually to Varsity programs who receive Superior ratings both in marching band and concert and sight-reading contests.

Thursday night at the conclusion of the Dragon Football game, the Dragon Band boarded buses and traveled to St. Louis, MO to compete on a national stage, in the Bands of America Super Regional contest. 69 bands, from 13 states, performed in the preliminary rounds over Friday and Saturday. The top 14 scoring bands then advanced to Finals Competition Saturday night.

The Carroll Dragon Band, competing for the first time on a national stage, against some of the finest bands in America, was a Finalist and finished in 9th place! As a 6A program, the Dragon Band made history with its highest score (83.6) and highest placement at any Bands of America contest ever. We hope you will congratulate these students when you see them.
