Dragon Tennis Punches Ticket to UIL State Tournament

For the first time in over a decade, the Dragon Tennis Team will be playing in the team tennis state tournament.

After a close victory over Coppell to advance to the regional tournament, the Dragons traveled to Abilene to take on two strong teams in the regional tournament and attempt to earn their spot in the final four. In the regional semifinal, the Dragons took down El Paso Coronado by a score of 10-2 and then matched up against a familiar team, Marcus High School. The Dragons came out on top in that match 10-3 to advance to the UIL State Tournament.

The Dragons will travel to College Station to compete in their first state tournament under Coach Corey Aldridge.

“Winning our region and making state is always one of the team goals we set at the beginning of the season. This year the extra work the kids put in has been the difference. Every day, we’d have kids coming early to practice to get extra work in. Every weekend, we’d have kids playing in outside tournaments of the district in order to get extra experience,” Aldridge said. “This year the kids made their goal a priority. I’m so happy for our 10 seniors as they’ve led our team to this point.”

They will be taking on Houston Memorial who is 17-0 on the season in the semifinal match on Wednesday, October 30 at 3 p.m. The state final match will be the following day at 3 p.m.

“Memorial will be tough. On paper, they’re the favorite to win it. We’ll give it our best shot,” said Aldridge.
