The Lady Dragon Volleyball team’s season came to an end in an epic five-game match against Mansfield in the area playoffs last Friday night. After dropping the first two games, the Lady Dragons fought back to force a decisive fifth and final game with the Tigers. Mansfield would go on to win that game and the match to advance onto the next round of the playoffs.
The Lady Dragons were lead by senior Annebelle Smith and junior Natalie Glenn with 22 and 21 kills respectively. Junior Keagan Polk led the team with 30 digs.
While the season may have ended earlier than planned for the Lady Dragons, the season still featured many highlights for the Lady Dragons and second-year head coach Teresa Dunn.
Dunn notched her 100th victory as a head coach when the lady Dragons defeated Keller Central on the final Friday of the regular season. Dunn also saw some impressive season-long performances from many of her players.
Smith, who was recognized early in the season by USA Today as a player to watch this season, ended the season with an impressive 476 kills, 183 blocks, and 48 service aces. Smith will be signing with Stanford University to continue her academic and athletic career at the Fall signing day event later this month.
The Lady Dragons wrapped up their season with an overall record of 31-12 and 10-4 in the district.
