Carroll Speech and Debate Excel Heading into State Tournament

Carroll Speech & Debate wrapped up their local tournament season this past weekend after competing at 16 DFW area tournaments since August. A total of 29 students qualified for the State tournament that will take place next month in El Paso, and several of those have also qualified at the national level.

Tarun Ratnasabapthy is currently the top Lincoln Douglas debater in the nation and is one tournament away from tying the all-time record for the most Tournament of Champions bids in a single season. He has advanced to elimination rounds at every tournament he’s attended this season and won a number of local and national level tournaments. He has been invited to prestigious round-robin tournaments, and consistently defeated the best competition in the country.

Danielle Kappler is the top-ranked Original Oratory competitor in Texas and has qualified for both State, TOC and the National Individual Event Tournament of Champions. She has won numerous local tournaments as well as reaching elimination rounds at Yale, Glenbrooks, and Emory. Just this past weekend, she just finished 4th at U Penn, competing against students from around the nation.

Katy Lin has accumulated 6 TOC bids this season and reached finals at a number of national tournaments. She is currently the top-ranked sophomore Congressional debater in the nation.
