Lady Dragons Pass First Test of the Postseason with Big Win

The Lady Dragon Basketball team upset Flower Mound last night for their first playoff win in five years. The last playoff victory for the program came on February 17, 2015, against South Grand Prairie. This was second-year head coach Robyn McCoart’s first playoff win with the program. The Lady Dragons will take on the winner of the Desoto-Pearce game taking place in Richardson tonight.

The Dragons pushed their overall record to 25-10 on the season with the 50-45 victory. They were led in scoring by Jillian Sowell who had 11 on the night. Jordyn Sowell and Cameryn Tade both bucketed eight points to add to the offense.

Coming into the game the Lady Dragons were ranked the second-best 6A defense in the DFW area. That defense stepped up in the biggest game of the season to limit the scoring of the higher-ranked Flower Mound team.

In honor of their biggest fan, Coach McCoart’s father, the Lady Dragons all had their fingernails painted red. McCoart’s father recently passed and was a frequent presence in the stands for his favorite team.

The Lady Dragons will be in action later this week in the Area Round of the UIL playoffs.
