Carroll ISD Celebrates Veterans Day 2020

Veterans Day is always a special day in Carroll ISD. Campuses celebrate the brave men and women of the community that have served the country through assemblies, recognitions, and other memorable experiences. This year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, campuses are having to take a different approach to honor these courageous veterans.

Most of the campuses will be taking their recognitions virtual through video slideshows and recorded recognitions. Most of these recognitions will be available to the CISD public after they are aired on campus on November 11.

The following is a list of how each campus plans on recognizing their veterans:

Carroll Elementary – This year CES will honor their veterans through a prerecorded video that will be aired in classrooms on Nov. 11. After it has been aired in the classrooms, it will be uploaded to the Wake-Up CES YouTube channel and shared with the families of Carroll Elementary.

Johnson Elementary – JES is producing a video honoring the campus and community veterans. It will be aired on our KJES at 7:55. JES will upload it to their YouTube channel and shared the channel with our parents.

Old Union Elementary – OUES plan is to hold a Virtual Veterans Day Celebration right after announcements on November 11. This presentation will include a slideshow of Veterans and a few songs that the kids will sing.

Rockenbaugh Elementary – RES is honoring veterans on their Dragon Tale News. They will be showing last year’s 3rd Grade Musical slideshow to all RES students. The slideshow contains pictures of veterans from our RES families.

Walnut Grove Elementary – Walnut Grove is creating a video presentation, which will be shared during their morning announcements at 8 a.m. on November 11. They will then post the presentation so that WGES families can view it. The presentation includes pictures that WGES families have submitted of their family members who have or are currently serving in the U.S. military.

Durham Intermediate – Durham Intermediate will be honoring their Veterans during homeroom with a video honoring those veterans in their community.

Eubanks Intermediate – EIS will be welcoming a few veterans on campus to lead the pledges and announcements on the morning announcements. Staff and students are invited to wear red, white and blue. During Social Studies, students will show a presentation that will consist of veteran guest speakers, the Dawson Band playing the different songs of the military branches, and a slideshow about our military, Veterans Day, and memorials in our country.

Carroll Middle – At this time the plan for CMS is to provide a digital Veterans Day program to our students during our Advisory time. It will include the CMS Band playing music, CMS Choir singing, a video honoring veterans within the community, and students will be reading their poems about Veterans Day.

Dawson Middle – DMS is going completely virtual for Veterans Day this year. They are working to replicate as many of the pieces from their usual assembly as possible in a stitched video format, dropped on YouTube, and launched November 11. The school day will be adjusted so all students have built-in time to view the video during the school day.

Carroll High – CHS is creating a video presentation. The Student Council, led by Sarah Millhorn, will be creating the program. CHS Admin will be asking staff to turn it on at 10:50 a.m.

Carroll Senior High – CSHS is creating a video presentation. KDGN will be creating the program and sending it out to the campus. The administration and KDGN will be sharing the link through social media after the presentation.
