Dragon Students Create “The Candy Cane Project”; Deliver Smiles and Treats over Break

A project that started as an opportunity to help families in need over the Thanksgiving break in November blossomed into an amazing display of compassionate service during the recent winter break for many Carroll ISD students.

After collecting and delivering over 50 meal baskets to families in need over the Thanksgiving break these Dragons realized there was so much more they could do to assist others in neighboring cities. The COVID-19 Pandemic was affecting these families more than originally. The “Candy Cane Project” became an effort by students from all across Carroll ISD to provide a happier holiday season and some big smiles to others. As they were working

The Dragons that spearheaded this service project were Nikitha Kancherla(WGES), Sanjana Reddy Kunam(WGES), Nitya Badireddy(WGES), Aanya Kancherla(DIS), Sahasra Reddy Kunam(CMS), Sriya Badireddy (CMS), Malaika Nair(CMS), Sidhi Devireddy(CMS), Aisha Myneni(CHS), Neha Gogineni(CHS), Shriya Gogineni(CHS), Surya Venigalla(CHS), and Nitya Nadella(CHS).

Working with multiple representatives from local non-profits, the Candy Cane Project identified the families they wanted to serve. Each family would be gifted supplies to create fun holiday treats (candy canes,   cookie and brownie mix, etc.) and games for the family to enjoy. These students created a video to assist with fundraising, and their efforts paid off with over $1,750 dollars in donations.

The students came together on December 20 and worked together to purchase, wrap, and deliver the gift packages over the break. There are plans to continue this outstanding service project in the future.
