Carroll Senior High School Students Earn National Merit Finalist Honor

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) announced the names this week of approximately 15,000 Finalists in the annual National Merit Scholarship Program. These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for National Merit Scholarships that will be offered this spring. Several Carroll ISD students earned this impressive recognition.

The National Merit Scholarship Program is an annual academic competition for recognition and college undergraduate scholarships, based on their Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) scores.

According to the National Merit Scholarship Program (NMSC), “over 1.5 million juniors in about 21,000 high schools entered the 2021 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2019 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®), which served as an initial screen of program entrants. The nationwide pool of Semifinalists, representing less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state. The selection of some 7,500 Merit Scholarship winners from the group of more than 15,000 Finalists is now in progress.”

Carroll Senior High School Principal, Shawn Duhon, is very proud of this group of Dragons.
