SRO Roberson Wins TASRO Officer of the Year

On Monday June 27th, 2022, SRO Brett Roberson was awarded the Officer of the Year by the Texas Association of School Resource Officers (TASRO) in San Antonio, Texas.

Officer Roberson has been the SRO at Carroll Middle School for over 16 years.  She is a member of the Regional SWAT team as a negotiator, is a Mental Health Liaison for officers, and work as a training officer for new SROs.

At Carroll Middle School, where the struggles of adolescence begin, she helps work with teens on their self-esteem, confidence, and morale.  She uses her personal, life, and career experiences to communicate and connect with her students.

Officer Roberson also heads and organizes the Southlake DPS Youth Academy each year in which students, aged 13-17, apply and learn basic first aid, fire safety, self-awareness, criminal procedure, and other police functions.  She coordinates speakers, trips to the Medical Examiner’s Office, and symbiotically works with other city departments.

“Officer Brett Roberson is a role model example of commitment, relationship building, communication, and her priority to ensure the staff and students feel safe at school,” her nomination read.

This esteemed award follows Officer Tony Pate’s 2021 NASRO Valor Award and TASRO awarding the Southlake Police Department as the SRO Program of the Year in 2021.
