Former Southlake Mayor Laura Hill Launches New Book

The Southlake Public Library will host Former Mayor Laura Downey Hill to discuss her new book, Walking in My Shoes: A Woman’s Story of Leadership on Thursday, November 17th at the Southlake Training Center at 6:30 p.m.

Laura served on the Southlake City Council from 2004 – 2011 and again from 2013 – 2015. She was elected as Southlake’s first female mayor in 2015 and served until 2021.

These were formative years for the City of Southlake, which grew from a small rural community to a nationally recognized City. Southlake has been listed as one of Texas’s best places to live.

Laura is also a prominent businesswoman. Being a co-owner of Downey Publishing and Texas Ice Cream has taught her how to create jobs and sustain and grow her business over a period of decades.

In her professional role, she focuses on meeting challenges by drawing on her strengths as a woman and rejecting the idea that women must be like men to lead.

Now, in her first book, Laura discusses her experiences as a woman in positions of leadership over four decades. She shares her story with honesty, humility, and a bit of humor, revealing the best that women bring to adversity.

If you would like to attend the event, please register online.

The Southlake Training Center is located at 307 Parkwood Drive.
