CISD Cheer Team wins NCA Nationals Competition Title

This week Mayor John Huffman and Councilmember Ronell Smith spoke with the CISD Cheerleading Varsity Coach, Cassie Hopkins, about their recent 2023 National Championship win at the NCA Nationals.

“It takes consistency, dedication, and hard work, being mentally ready as much as physically, but probably the most important thing is having heart,” said Cassie Hopkins. “It takes a lot of passion to win a National Championship in any sport.”

The 30-member strong team is a mix of seniors and freshmen with a “Fight for It” mantra.

“Our mantra was something that we frequently reminded the girls about. Whether it was fighting for a stunt, fighting through a physical barrier, or fighting through a bad day.”

This was only the second year the team competed. Still, their dedication and hard work paid off and cumulated in a National Championship win for the team in the Large Varsity Game Day Division.

“Between parents, our coaching staff, our principal, and the community, it’s been the best season we could have hoped for.”

The City of Southlake is proud of what this team has accomplished and looks forward to seeing what the future will bring for them.
