The Southlake City Council has named Assistant City Manager Alison Ortowski as the lone finalist to replace Shana Yelverton as the City Manager after the first of the year. Yelverton has announced she will be stepping away from the job at the end of January.
During the October 17 meeting, the Council unanimously approved a motion to designate Ortowski as the sole candidate for the position and directed staff to draft an employment contract for review at an upcoming meeting.
“Ms. Ortowski, We are very much looking forward to this next chapter,” said Southlake Mayor John Huffman immediately following the vote. ”We will have many moments to celebrate you in your new role.”
Serving as Assistant City Manager since 2013, she has provided comprehensive corporate leadership to all city departments, encompassing strategic management, public safety, emergency management, economic development, capital asset management and construction, communication and marketing, and financial management. She has experience with every aspect of municipal operations. Before coming to Southlake in 2007, she worked in the cities of Denton and Gatesville.
“Alison is exceedingly qualified to take on this role,” said Yelverton. “She has the extensive experience, significant skill, and wisdom needed to perform at a very high level. She has long been an effective corporate leader and will be an outstanding city manager. I’m thrilled Council has placed their confidence in her.”
Ortowski will begin her new duties on February 1.
