Read books. Collect tickets. Win prizes!
There is a world of knowledge and adventure waiting at the Southlake Public Library, and with the Library Foundation of Southlake’s new Funopoly reading challenge, finding your new favorite book has never been more fun!
From November 20th through January 8th, young readers are invited to participate in an exciting winter reading challenge inspired by the popular game, Monopoly. Instead of filling the board by collecting properties, participants collect tickets by reading books that fulfill the prompts of the boxes on the board.
“The beauty of our Funopoly reading game is that it gives kids a lot of choices about the types of books they read,” Lori Burr, President of the Library Foundation of Southlake said. “Ideally, it will encourage readers to choose something that might be outside their normal habits. A child who mostly reads books about animals may stretch themselves to read a biography instead just to earn a ticket. We would love to see readers exploring new genres and types of books.”
When all the books within the same color on the board are read, participants receive a “golden ticket” to be placed into a drawing for exciting prizes. Possible prizes include a gift card to Toy Maven, a 1956 Pizza party, and a Bose portable speaker!
“This program will offer a fun reading challenge to keep the kids engaged and entertained over the holidays,” Stacy Wells, City of Southlake Youth Librarian explained. “The library is always open to new ideas to connect with our community, and this is one way that helps make this happen.”
